FAQs

What conditions do your specialists treat?

Our board-certified podiatrists treat a wide range of foot and ankle conditions for the whole family, including:

  • Ingrown toenails, fungal infections, and calluses
  • Chronic heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Sprains, fractures, and tendon injuries
  • Bunions, hammertoes, and other structural changes
  • Diabetic foot care and pediatric foot concerns

Whether your visit is for a lingering ache or a more pressing injury, our specialists take the time needed to identify the actual cause rather than treating symptoms alone.

Can a podiatrist help with foot pain caused by sports activities?

Yes. We routinely treat sports-related foot and ankle injuries in both young athletes and active adults across our Southern California locations. Our specialists evaluate gait and biomechanics to determine what is driving the pain, whether that involves overuse, a structural imbalance, or an acute injury sustained during activity. Depending on what we find, treatment may include:

  • Custom orthotics to correct an underlying alignment issue
  • Physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility safely
  • Guidance on modifying training or activity levels
  • Bracing to support the area while it heals

Addressing sports injuries promptly typically leads to a shorter recovery and a lower risk of the injury returning.

What should I expect during my first foot and ankle evaluation?

Your first visit generally includes the following steps:

  • A detailed discussion of your symptoms, including when they began and how they affect your daily life
  • A physical examination to assess range of motion, swelling, and tenderness
  • X-rays, if your provider determines imaging is necessary
  • A clear explanation of your diagnosis and treatment plan

Our specialists manage your care in-house from this first visit through recovery, so your treatment plan stays consistent and coordinated.

Do you offer non-surgical treatment options before recommending surgery?

Yes. Most conditions we treat are resolved without surgery. Before considering a surgical approach, our specialists typically recommend:

  • Custom-molded orthotics for structural support
  • Stretching routines and structured physical therapy
  • Advanced non-invasive treatment options
  • Anti-inflammatory injections for joint or tendon irritation
  • Footwear adjustments suited to your foot structure

If surgery is ultimately recommended, your provider will explain the procedure and expected recovery in full before any decision is made.

Can I get a second opinion on a foot or ankle condition or proposed surgery?

Yes, we welcome patients seeking a second opinion before committing to a treatment plan. Our doctors will carefully review your previous records, conduct a thorough exam, and provide honest guidance on all available surgical and non-surgical options.

Do you accept my insurance, and how can I confirm my coverage?

We accept most major insurance plans, including but not limited to Anthem, Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Community Health Group, Inland Empire Health Plan, Medicare, Molina Healthcare, Optum Health, Promisecare Medical Group, Regal Medical Group, Sharp Community Medical Group, Tricare West Region, UC San Diego Medical Group, United Healthcare, and the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Since coverage details vary by plan, we recommend calling our office ahead of your visit so our team can confirm your specific benefits.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Same-week and same-day visits are typically available across our San Diego and Riverside county locations. In most cases, a physician’s referral is not required to schedule. For urgent concerns, call us for immediate availability options so you are not left waiting on pain that needs prompt attention.

Do you provide on-site X-rays?

Nearly every SoCal Foot Care location is equipped with on-site digital X-ray imaging, allowing your exam and imaging to take place during the same visit rather than requiring a separate appointment.

How will I receive my diagnostic test or imaging results?

Results are made available through your secure Patient Portal as soon as they are ready. We then schedule a follow-up appointment so your provider can review the findings with you and outline next steps in your treatment plan.

How often should I visit a podiatrist?

Recommended visit frequency depends on your age, health status, and activity level:

  • Generally healthy adults: an annual check-up, particularly if you use orthotics
  • Children and young athletes: periodic evaluations as they grow, particularly if involved in organized sports
  • Patients with diabetes or circulation concerns: at least one visit per year, sometimes more frequent monitoring for high-risk patients
  • Acute pain or a new injury: we recommend scheduling a visit promptly rather than waiting

Because same-day and same-week appointments are typically available, there is rarely a reason to delay care for any member of your family.
